FOLLY
June 2020 (year 1, term 3 & 4)
In this project the goal was to create a 'folly' (architectural creation without a function) placed in an abandoned quarry, nearby Maastricht. In this project I first researched a location, focussing mainly on materials. My 'folly' is inspired by the carved rock wall. Visitors can experience this form by walking around the 'folly' and underneath it. By using a reflecting material on one side the 'folly' becomes a mirroring image of its surroundings. On the other side the corten steel creates a contrast.
Below you find the pictures of the scale model, plans and material analysis for this project. For in-depth insight in my working method for research and designing, please review the booklets (in Dutch) by clicking the buttons below.
